The Best Way to Get to Mirissa from Colombo

There are several methods that can be used as a means of transportation to get from Colombo, the main capital of Sri Lanka, to Mirissa, depending on your preference for the way you want to travel.

We have mentioned those methods separately below.

  • 1. Bus
  • If you decide to take a trip to Mirissa and would like to use the facility, there are two main ways that you can go about this. The first option is to catch the highway bus from the main bus terminal in Colombo and the second is to take the normal road bus.

Highway Bus– Using the highway that runs directly from Colombo’s main bus station to Matara is the easiest and most convenient way for you. The Colombo bus stand is easily accessible since all buses traveling along the highway park there.

As soon as you arrive in Mathara, you can get off the bus and travel back towards Colombo in a taxi or Tuk-tuk until you reach your destination in mirissa.

Regular Route Bus– you can take a regular route bus from Matara or Tangalle or Hambantota and Kataragama if we are using a regular route bus. In the case of using this approach, you will have to spend a lot of time traveling, but you will be able to enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka’s southern coast while doing so.

  1. 2. ‍Uber Or Pickme

Using Uber and Pick me APP in Sri Lanka, you will be able to easily get the tuk-tuk, car or van you need as soon as you need it.
In this case, you can also take the Highway and the Regular Route if you wish, and you can travel very comfortably and quickly to your destination Mirissa.

Tip Pick me App is more convenient for you than Uber APP, and the reason for this is that Uber APP usually provides their service better only around Colombo city and the service is not available outside of Colombo.

One of the best things to do in Mirissa, and one of the most appreciable locations in Sri Lanka, is visit Coconut Tree Hill. There are some of the nicest views in the area at the private coconut plantation, which is only a 15-minute walk from Mirissa Beach.

The headland spreads out in front of you after you reach the top of the hill, providing you with breath-taking views of the ocean through the numerous sagging palm trees. To capture shots while there are fewer people around, we advise going at sunrise.

The beach is less crowded as a result, and if you arrive early enough, you can even have the place to yourself.

Getting to the Secret beach in Mirissa on foot requires hiking up a steep path on Road for about twenty minutes. To avoid the harsh sun, I recommend walking early.

5. Hill of the parrots

This is another popular tourist attraction which is located right in front of the famous Mirissa beach. Mirissa Beach is just in front of Parrot Rock, a large red mound that dominates the surrounding water. Due to the stunning views of the palm tree-lined beaches below, it has become one of the greatest things to do in Mirissa.

You’ll need to investigate the tides because Parrot Rock is out to sea; Low tide is the best time to cross because you won’t get wet. In particular, during the monsoon season when the waves will be high, crossing during high tide can be risky.

Numerous little rocks all around Parrot Rock have been colonized by coral, making for an amazing snorkelling experience. The monsoon rains have moved further north during this time, and the river is at its calmest.

Therefore, the “season” lasts from November to April. In fact, the water is so pure that you can see what’s beneath the surface just by standing on the coast and looking down, but you should go snorkeling nonetheless since it seems like entering another universe. The coral-covered rock has developed into a sort of reef and is now teeming with an assortment of vibrant fish and other aquatic life.
